For me, nature motivates creativity. I paint realistic images in a slightly abstract way to engender curiosity and interest. By capturing a brief moment in a larger action, my paintings produce a moment of anticipation for the viewer: “What’s going to happen next?”

Often, I feel more like a sculptor than a painter. I use painting to sculpt an image, which becomes more and more three-dimensional as each layer of paint is applied. I don’t try to capture every detail; I want viewers to enjoy the image they see and the one they can imagine. I want them to discover the image for themselves. By leaving traces of each layer behind, viewers can see how the painting came into being.
